But apart from Apple Music, Roon and Audirvana were outstanding. This could be the power supply, the operating system. I even asked Audirvana support about it and their reply was sorry its complicated to do folder view. First of all it didnt sound any better than JRiver, and the deal breaker was that Audirvana couldnt do Folder view.
AMARRA VS AUDIRVANA VS PURE MUSIC PRO
To cut a long story short the MacBook Pro performed better than the standard PC. I havent tried Audirvana Studio, but did try out the older version of Audirvana when I was using JRiver 26. Luckily mine are all still functioning so I still have that option at least for a while. This Macbook has Roon, Audirvana and Apple Music (the application formerly known as iTunes). There is no other remote app that offers the functionality and ease of use of this one, but it only works with Squeezebox which Logitech has discontinued. For me, the easiest and best user interface is iPeng controlling Logitech Media Server for my Squeezeboxes.

Amarra recommended I try Splashtop to use as a remote app with that player, so I am trying that out as well. I do like the JRiver Remote app better than using the iTunes remote app which you have to use to control Pure Music or BitPerfect from your iPad or iPhone device. I only just purchased Amarra so can't yet tell if I will find the GUI easy or crazy. I was getting dropouts with BitPerfect and discovered it was my DAC. By cobntrast I find Pure Music and BitPerfect really easy to use. For instance, I have difficulty with the logic and features of JRiver even though it's a lot of people's favorite player. Some I find much easier to operate than others. Audirvana: integration is perfect but it doesnt sound as good in iTunes compared to standalone mode. However, the user interfaces are vastly different. Pure Music: Testing it now - iTunes integration is not as robust as Audirvana (track position odd) but Im willing to compromise if it sounds better. The Sonic Studio Players: Amarra, MINI, and Junior Note: Recently Sonic Studio have updated their pricing scheme so now it’s Amarra Hifi (49), Amarra (189), and Amarra Symphony (495). I am hard pressed to "hear" differences between playback on these various players. OS X Audio Players: Amarra, Audirvana, Pure Music, Fidelia, Decibel, and BitPerfect. I have been trying BitPerfect, JRiver Media Center 19 for Mac, Pure Music 2.0, and most recently got Amarra 3.0.
